STINK CHILD COMICS UPDATE 3-28-2008
New SCC in TOON TOWN
New WIIK SAUCE
OK, at the hospital where I work, in case of a fire, there are these large metal fire-resistant doors all over the place. When I got to work today all of these doors in the basement were closed up. But there were no alarms and everyone was going on with their day so I figured I would just go on with my day as well. I went through one pair of doors. Then through a second. And I see the door to the morgue is wide open.
Just my luck. I missed the zombies.
Something else I wanted to say, a little more serious than usual. I just thought I'd bring it up because this particular item helped me out again tonight. This will probably take quite a few people off guard because most know me as not a religious person. Anyway...
In 2005, I was flying back to Arizona from a trip home to Portland. There's something of a rule that when you see a cute girl in the terminal you will NOT sit next to her on your flight. I managed to break this rule. I got to sit next to this really cheerful girl with curly hair who oddly enough introduced herself before she sat down. That kind of took me off guard as cute chicks don't talk to me. We just started talking, she told me about being in Oregon for some hiking/camping trip that said to a sickly inner-city kid like myself "Hay fever and sun burns" I told her about going to animation school and doing the web comic, this is when SCC was still in it's infancy. She then told me that she was flying to Arizona to catch another flight to meet her boyfriend in Texas...boyfriend...fucking figures..anyway.
I fell asleep half way through the flight, waking up when they were announcing the landing in Phoenix. I look next to me and she's hunched over, writing something on this small box in her lap, as we couldn't have our tray tables down at this point. The plane lands and she gets up. She looks back to me and says "You seemed like you could use this. Nice meeting you, Mike." And handed me this small business card looking thing. I politely thanked her, said it was nice to meet her too, and we parted ways. I looked at the card and it had come bible verse on it. At the time I kinda rolled my eyes and stuck it in my pocket, figuring I would throw it away later.
I got to my apartment and was cleaning out my pockets when the card fell out. I looked it over again and say there was writing on the back. It said "Dear Mike, It was nice to meet you. Good luck w/ everything. Just remember that there's someone looking out for you =) God Bless. Sincerely, Shelly P.S. In all things - Pray!" I thought about throwing it away then but for some reason I couldn't. I stuck it in my wallet with my other cards, ID, and bullshit that goes in there.
I brought this up because tonight I was feeling kinda crappy and I found it, read it and I remembered how this complete stranger wanted to help someone who was clearly troubled, find a path. Even though it was a religious one. I find some comfort it the fact that there are people out there who aren't plagued with anxiety and depression, who can always have a smile on their face and want to spread that joy to everyone else
So even though she'll likely never see this. For helping this angry, cynical nerd have something to bring him out of the dark from time to time. Thank you, Shelly.

In case of fire, lock all the doors! But let the dead people burn…
