comments?

Stink Child Comics #107 SCC in Toon Town #108 Wiik Sauce #108

You know what the most disheartening thing I face every day? The incredible lack of comments.

We've been watching the numbers of this, and the comic pages, slowly rise in the period of maybe two months from around 20-30 viewers a day to almost an average of 100 every day. So we know more people are reading them than there were just two months ago. And yet, there's hardly any proof of it by way of comments or forum users.

At this point I don't even care what the comment is. Don't think you need to post something thought provoking or important. Anything as simple as an "I lol'd" is fine with me as long as you make your presence known! Even as I watch the numbers rise, I can't help but think that no one is reading when there's no comments to support the numbers.

Jeb told me once, something about being more confrontational about certain topics like they do on PVP. But I don't think there's enough in the content of our strips to start a conversation, if only someone would step up and do it.

I think the highlight of doing this was when I made this comic about Iron Man, Indiana Jones and The Hulk, trying to find a way to knock "Sex and the City: The Movie" off the #1 spot and eventually turn to Batman and "The Dark Knight" to save the summer. This was a highlight for me because someone made a comment about how he was not a fan of "Batman Begins" and wasn't looking forward to "The Dark Knight" because he felt that they were doing Batman an injustice by telling the story "wrong." This sparked a very civil debate on comic book movies that lasted for several weeks. And I wish more people would jump up and say "I agree" or "I disagree" or "That's funny" whatever comment might be lurking in your head, as I'm sure most of you have SOME opinion on the comics, post it. Good, Bad, WHATEVER. Just let me know that you're out there!

It is heartbreaking. I know I check the site daily hoping for something, anything. Sure, “hey the writing here sucks” would dishearten me, but at least someone would be saying something, right?

Comments, plz nao!

“hey the writing here sucks, yea Chris” nah just kidding, yea I admit being i guess what ya call one of the more loyal fans of the site and more often then not, I seldom if ever leave a comment. But, from now I will leave my comments and so should everyone. Guess I should still expect a butt whooping at Blockles anyways.

To All who come to this happy place, Here’s a comment. You write self-insert comics where you fuck cartoon characters, the art is shit, and you are probably both pedos; fall down a well and die.

It is a quite awful webcomic. I admit I only looked through the few most recent strips, so maybe it’s not representative of the whole.
Here’s a point-by-point presentation of it’s awfulness:

- Art is shit, as Walt eloquently put it. Godawful blurry shading, little to no backgrounds and what looks like compression artifacts all over the main character’s (I presume) clothing. To top it all, it’s six panels long for no reason at all other than to contain the unnecessarily long speech bubbles.

- Zero jokes. Really not much to say there, lots of words and not a single funny one.

- Compared to the rest this is a minor nitpick, but your forums layout is unnecessarily confusing. One forum for comic discussion and one for general would be more than enough.

Overall, it’s bland, uninspired and utterly forgettable. Really guys I think you’re wasting your free time on it.

You guys are silly :D

Hey grate gatsby, thanks for reading Wiik Suace, which I assume you did. Really glad you passed judgment on the writing and art, and thanks for leaving the comment.

Oh, by the way…”Great”. Just saying.

The great thing about http://www.stinkchildcomics.com/wordpress/2008/06/06/stink-child-comics-105-summer-blockbusters/
is that it totally turned out to be the truth!

Oh, yea… and as an aside, I still believe in limiting the venues in which people can discuss topics. (With the objective to consolidate; not restrict… meaning features should be abundant, but locales should be scarce.) Get rid of one of the avenues of conversation. Forums OR comments; not forums AND comments.

Furthermore: if you get rid of the forums, then you should add the features of a forum to the comment board. IE: avatars, image posting, signatures, etc.
And if you get rid of the comments, you should add the instant accessibility of these things to the forum. Perhaps a board on the forum which requires no registration and displays the most recent thread on the frontpage.

No, Jeb. We don’t need to get rid of either of them.

They’re used for two seperate things. Comments are for people to comment on news articles. Message boards are for users to create a community. The only problem is, no one wants to leave comments on the posts for some reason, and we’ve been too busy to make message board posts.

Granted, you’re more than welcome to join the forums and make a few posts.
